World’s First Rear Window Airbag
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
With the increasing competition for car manufacturers, any new technology that they can come up with first is always a plus. Car manufacturers are continually trying to think of more safety features and measures that will give their vehicles an edge over the competition. Last Tuesday, Toyota Motors Corp. announced that it has developed the first-ever rear window curtain shield air bag air bag that is supposed to protect back-seat passengers in the event of a rear-end collision.
The new airbag will deploy from the roof lining above the rear window and spreads like a curtain-like barrier to protect the heads of the rear passengers. Together with the headrests, its ultimate goal is to minimize impact to the head. The new safety gear will debut in the soon to be launched “iQ” compact four-seater vehicle.
